Types of Manicures – Gel Manicure, Shellac Manicure, Acrylic Manicure, French Manicure and More

A manicure is an essential part of any woman’s beauty regimen. It’s a simple, effective way to keep your hands looking healthy and well-groomed. But what kind of manicure is best for your needs?

To help with this decision-making process, we’ve listed some of the most popular manicure options offered at our popular Montreal salon.

Kinds of Manicures

Regular Manicure – A standard manicure consists of trimming, shaping, filing and buffing your nails. Cuticles may be conditioned or trimmed. A good standard manicure should make your nails look beautiful without polish but of course, pretty nail polish serves as the perfect finishing touch.

French Manicure – French manicures are perfect for anyone who prefers their nails to look natural but still stand out, as the white tips are applied at an angle using a nail brush to fill in the gap between the ridge of your nail bed, which forms a line of white tips along each nail. This prevents damage caused by clipping or filing at an angle.

The French manicure is one of the most popular types of manicures because it looks great on everyone and is easy to maintain.

Russian Manicure – A Russian manicure is called a dry manicure, so no soaking is needed. This technique consists of very precise cuticle work, often involving a nail drill and other special equipment to clean and remove excess skin around the nail bed.

Deluxe Manicure – A luxe spa-like service, a deluxe manicure consists of a more in-depth treatment of your hands and nails, along with multiple moisturizing wraps, exfoliants, heat wraps, massage and a more detailed approach to nails, nail beds and cuticles.

Shellac Manicure – A Shellac manicure is basically a hybrid of gel and regular nail polish. A Shellac manicure is hardened and cured with an LED lamp, providing long-lasting wear and hardly any dry time. Because a Shellac manicure is softer than gel, it’s more easily removed with acetone.

Gel Manicure – A gel manicure is made up of acrylic monomers and oligomers that are bonded together when placed under a UV light. A gel manicure can be shaped and sculpted to your nail like acrylic, with a finish that is glossier and thicker than Shellac. It is strongly suggested you have your gel manicure removed at a salon.

A gel manicure is a popular option that lasts up to three weeks. It uses a UV light to cure the polish and you can go swimming and wear these durable nails until they grow out.

Acrylic Manicure – Acrylic nails tend to be the most durable of artificial nail options but do require a soak in acetone to remove, therefore can be more damaging than other options. Some prefer gel nails throughout the year and save up applying acrylic nails for special occasions. They consist of a mix of powder and liquid monomers shaped onto your nails with a brush and then air-dried. With acrylic, you can add length and create a shape.

The Long and Short of it?

If you’re looking for a manicure that lasts and lasts, go for Shellac. If you prefer the look of natural nails but want something that looks great without drying time between applications, then gel manicures are your best bet. French manicures are perfect if you want a nail treatment that doesn’t interfere with your routine and looks classically good. And if all else fails, regular ol’ polish will always do the trick!
