How to Tame Winter Hair Foes – Frizz and Static

Nothing is more frustrating than frizz and static electricity  when we want our hair to look its best. Static electricity in the hair can zap a style right out of your hair while frizz makes hair appear unkempt and unhealthy.

Luckily there are plenty of at-home techniques to take care of the hair horrors quickly and easily. And if those don’t work, we have a few salon-based ideas that can help smooth your hair!

How to Tame Frizzy Hair

Lukewarm water. It’s imperative to use lukewarm water when washing your hair, not hot water. It’s harder during the cold months, because who doesn’t love a hot shower or bath? But your hair will thank you. Lukewarm water helps close the cuticles of hair strands and seals in the moisture. And its moisture that prevents “The Frizz.”

Go easy on hair dryer. You’ve undoubtedly heard it before but you should only use a hairdryer when your hair is mostly dry. Yet most of us are doing damage with heating tools without even realizing it. It’s all about the moisture. And when you use a hairdryer too often or too soon in the drying process, you’re removing that critical moisture.

Light oil. There are professional products that add light oil to your hair by rubbing it in your hand then distributing it throughout your hair. Remember to go light: too much can weigh down your hair.

How to Remove Static from Hair

Moisturizing shampoo. Winter is the perfect time to use a good salon-level moisturizing shampoo since the air is less humid and hair is more prone to static. Make sure you’re massaging shampoo in the scalp as well. A healthy scalp produces the right amount of oils to prevent static .

The occasional mask treatment. There is daily conditioners and then there are conditioning masks that deeply penetrate and condition your hair. Once a month during the winter months is usually enough to keep the static at bay.

A wet comb. In a pinch, a wet comb will remove staticp. Yes, it might affect your hairstyle but what’s  worse than flyaway hair?

If your frizz or flyaway hair is more comprehensive than these at-home tips, come visit is. You might be a perfect candidate for a keratin treatment or a deep conditioning treatment using only our best and most nutritious products.
