Who doesn’t fantasize about longer hair sometimes? There is just something sexy and romantic about it, like tapping into our wildest self with our long locks representing our free spirits.

But come on…long hair can be a lot of work! Between washing, drying, conditioning and trimming dead ends frequently. Long hair, also takes a LOT of time to grow…like years. Simply put: long hair is no walk in the park!

Hair extensions give you that wild, free look without the hassle!

Hair Extensions – Clip-in? Tape-in? Fusion? Which One for You?

Hair extensions have come a long way. Before, they used to be a pain to insert and could often look awkward and well, cheap frankly. But these days, you can wear comfortable, natural-looking extensions for a good price and an even better final result.

Human versus synthetic hair extensions

First, there are human and synthetic hair extensions (the first is made of natural hair strands whereas the second is composed of synthetic strands obviously). The care for them can be quite different. Real human hair can be styled and maintained just as you would your head of hair. Hair extensions made of human hair can last up to one year whereas synthetic hair lasts only several months on average.

Different types of hair extensions

Clip-ins. Most are familiar with the basics of clip-in hair extensions (also known as clip-in wefts). Simple to insert, you just clip a hair extension to your natural hair (usually underneath a section of hair at a time) and clip it closed. These types of extensions are fairly fool-proof and low maintenance. They’re also a smart choice if you’re concerned about overall hair health since they require no heat or chemicals to adhere them. Easy to put in, easy to maintain.

Tape-in hair extensions. Tape-in hair extensions require a little more work than clip-in hair extensions. They’re generally done at a salon (our Montreal salon does them for instance ; ). These wafts of hair are aligned with your roots and applied with a heating tool to secure them. They also require special product to remove them. The perk: they last longer, as long as 4 – 8 weeks. The drawback: the glue and heating process can be damaging, especially to fine hair. Tape-in hair extensions take one to two hours to insert via a professional stylist. Special care is advised, which we detail with you in person.

Fusion Hair Extensions This is more of a committed hair adhesion process that can keep you in the salon chair a bit longer (luckily we have a killer cafe so you can load up on coffee nearby). Fusion hair extensions are similar in theory to the tape-in hair extensions but the fusion type is keratin tipped (instead of glue) so its gentler on the hair. While yes, the process takes longer, you can expect a beautiful head of natural-looking hair that can last up to 6 months (with some maintenance.)

Are hair extensions right for you? In our opinion, there’s a hair extension right for just about any woman. Whether you’re looking for fun highlights in your hair (without the damaging effect of bleach), a dramatic look for a vacation or party (clip-ins are perfect for these occasions) or just want to feel like that gal riding off onto the sunset, with her hair whipping in the wind, we’ve got what you need!
